Meet Dr. Merchant

Dr. Mehreen Merchant is certified by the American Board of Orthodontics and is skilled with various advanced orthodontic treatments for children and adults. Dr. Mehreen is originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, where she was raised and spent most of her childhood years. She completed her undergraduate studies at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and a certificate in Entrepreneurship and Management.

After that, she moved to Philadelphia, PA, to attend dental school at the University of Pennsylvania, where she was awarded a scholarship to obtain a dual degree. In just four years, she completed a Doctorate in Dental Medicine and a Masters in Bioengineering. While in dental school, Dr. Mehreen was selected to treat complex cases in the Advanced Dental Care Clinic. She also volunteered to organize a clinic that provided free dental health education and services to uninsured patients in the local community. She graduated with honors in clinical dentistry and community service for her efforts.

Upon graduation, Dr. Mehreen enrolled in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. Dr. Mehreen was active in orthodontic research and teaching during her specialty training. As a resident, she was selected to lead a continuing education course on temporomandibular joint disorders, attended by her peers and specialists across multiple departments at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Mehreen continually strives to keep up with the latest advances in orthodontics by attending continuing education courses, completing advanced training, and contributing to research in the field. She has presented her work to the American Association for Dental Research and has been published in three prestigious orthodontic journals.
